Feeding Hungry Children
It’s been a really busy, but rewarding season for us here in Mozambique. I am now involved with an amazing children’s village feeding program 6 days a week.
Brian and Lorena Wood (Lorena is Rolland Baker’s sister) developed this outreach and we’ve fast become close friends. The Wood’s are full of love and enthusiasm for the kids. We laugh a lot when we’re with them. We feed anywhere between 400 to 500 children a day. We sing, share Bible stories, play games and give them a meal. For many of the children this is the only meal they have each day. The children come in tattered clothes and it’s no stretch to say that we wouldn’t even want to use many of the clothes as rags as there are too many holes in them.

Dear Family and Friends,
The kids are learning the Bible for the first time in their lives. They are singing songs that have scripture in them and it’s so much fun to hear them sing their hearts out loudly and joyfully. We feed the kids whether they come to the entire program or not, but the kids come early as they don’t want to miss out on having fun learning about God. The kids are having visions of Jesus and they tell us amazing things that they see…many of the kids see Jesus praying for them and for their families…He speaks to them to love their mom’s and dad’s and to be good and not steal.
The kids are sponges and soak up all the love we give them. It’s a delight to hug them and give them “high five’s”.
We usually play several games with them and give prizes to the winner’s. A visitor brought a bunch of “Burger King” hats…they look like a crown…I knew this was going to be a huge hit…first boy who won one truly felt like a king!...all the children around him were awestruck with this gift…it’s just a thin cardboard crown, but to these children it’s a gift that’s priceless…the boy comes back every day wearing that BK hat! Several months ago someone donated 8 pairs of girls underwear. I gave them to the first 8 girls who came to the feeding program…and to this day those kids still come up to me and give me a hug as they are so thankful to have a pair of underwear…can you see why Christmas is so much fun here?!
My dream is to be able to give each child a shirt for Christmas.
Living here has been a gift for Jeff and I. Yes, we experience many trials in Mozambique. It’s not easy to live here in many ways. We have learned though that we don’t have to have a lot to be content and satisfied…there are no malls or shopping centers here so you learn to get by with a lot less. We grow vegetables (food here is very expensive) and eat lots of rice. We don’t have a microwave, dishwasher, dryer, etc., etc and it’s not a problem. I still find joy in simple things. Someone came to my house with an old canoe like boat and asked if I wanted to buy it…he sold it to me for $10…we have made a compost and have good soil because of the compost…I made the boat into a planter box, filled it with flowers and it’s lovely!
Jeff is busy putting a new thatched roof on our very simple, but beautiful abode. We are sleeping with no roof right now. It won’t be finished for another 10 days or so. We have the stars to look at while lying in bed…last night was a beautiful moonlit evening.

Dearest Janet, It's so amazing that just earlier tonite I was reading your messages and looking at all the beautuiful photos you sent and my time was cut short.
I was comtemplating, how can I get my "news" to Janet...when much to my wonder I came across your Post to my Caringbridge!!
Thankyou so much for your inspiration and prayers and the offer to donate...please, I would rather you keep the donation for your beautiful children...I will pray for shirts for Christmas! So great to see your face and the light of the Lord shining through.
Throughout this difficult journey I have travelled, God is beginning to move in an amazing way, bringing many blessings to my life and to the ones I love!!
Whenever I start to worry that I may not make it to Switzerland in time...I qucikly "die unto thyself" and turn to my Savior who carries me every step of the way.
I miss you and love you! When do you think you may be over our way again? I hope I can be here when you do!!
