We're going 1,100 miles south to Dondo, Mozambique, for 3 months.
Dear Friends and Family,
We’re in a brand new adventure. We have been renting our home here in Pemba while we visited our family and we made the decision to continue to rent it as it helps us out a lot in paying the bills. We’ve been living on the Iris Pemba base, which was a bit of an adjustment from the peace and comfort of our lovely thatched roof abode.
We’ve been asked if we would be willing to help out at a base in Dondo, Mozambique. Dondo is about 1,100 miles south of here in the middle of Mozambique.
We felt God’s leading to go so we flew to Beira and then drove 30 minutes to Dondo. We’ll be living here for 3 months. The base has had many challenges and difficulties and we’ve been asked to bring support and care to those who are here. The people here have had many difficulties. Our hearts desire is just to be friends with those who live here and build community. We want to help cultivate an atmosphere of prayer and worship. It’s been an honor to walk along side these missionaries who have given so much love and care to the poor.
The first week we were here 3 different Mozambican families had asked us to dinner. We’ve been so touched by their hospitality. Just this week we walked to a pastor’s home in the village. He has one biological child and 22 adopted children…he and his wife are truly amazing, generous souls. You can’t even imagine how they live. The housing is so small and dilapidated, but the children are well behaved and happy. I was talking to a young man who came from Portugal to help them with their education. He told me he had been helping at 3 different orphanages and that this home, even though it was in the roughest of conditions was where he found the children the most loved and respectful. There was much joy at this home. I couldn’t help myself when they were preparing the meal for us and I just started to cry. I was deeply touched by this poor husband and wife’s generous hearts. This pastor traveled in America for two years and as a result he speaks English well. He radiates the love of God in every pore of His being.
We have been helping in many areas on the base. Jeff is helping with the Bible school and he’s also overseeing construction of a play ground for the children. I’ve been helping with hospitality. We have many visiting teams that come from all over the world. Right now we have a team of 20 young adults who are traveling to 11 different countries for a year. They are here for 3 weeks and they’re going to help Jeff build latrines and a playground for the children. I also help with Mercy Ministry as we have many who come from the villages needing money to help with medical needs and transportation. We have 30 orphan boys who live on this base. They range in all different ages. They love to hang out at our home and listen to Jeff play the guitar. The boys love to help translate songs Jeff has written into Portuguese. It really warms my heart to see them together singing away. “Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Psalm 150: 3-6
As always we covet your prayers for health, safety and provision. Jeff had malaria at the end of last year and it took him a long time to recuperate from it. He even lost his ability to sing for 3 months as it affected his vocal cords…I’m really glad he has his beautiful voice back.
We love hearing from you all so please don’t hesitate to send us an email or add a note to our website. Thank you for all you do to help us and encourage us!
With much love,
Janet and Jeff

Is there an email address you use or is posting on this site the only way to communicate?
