Dreams Fulfilled

Dear Family and Friends,

We are leaving Dondo, Mozambique in October and returning to Pemba.

We have been asked to run the hospitality program in Pemba. Mark and Jen, who have been running it are moving to China to do mission work…

they will be greatly missed. We have countless visitors who come from all over the world to visit the base. I’m excited to host all those who come. I will be leaving Dondo earlier then Jeff, as he wants to finish making a basketball court he started for the children here. I need to get back to Pemba sooner as I will need a lot of hands on training before Mark and Jen leave. The task before me is going to be challenging as there is usually a staff of 5 and I will be doing hospitality by myself until middle of November. Just to give you an idea of all that’s involved in overseeing hospitality – the hospitality procedure manual is 90 pages long, not including the 17 attachments! Jeff will be busy with other projects when he comes back to Pemba so I’m the lone ranger until middle of November…I’m praying for more helpers.

We will carry many fond memories of our time in Dondo. The team of missionaries here are unsung heroes. They fast became dear friends. We’ve been blessed to be working with the children and some wonderful Mozambican’s here in Dondo. Jeff has worked daily with a Mozambican named Clemente. He is a diligent, delightful help to Jeff. Clemente has a wife and 4 children. He had told us months ago that a long time dream of his is to someday have enough money to own a bed. Most Mozambicans sleep on the floor…for many that means sleeping on a dirt floor. Last week Jeff and I surprised Clemente by buying him a bed. Jeff delivered it to his oh, so humble home…it was a huge joy to see the happiness this has brought to Clemente and his family!

During our time here in Dondo, missionary friends of ours from Pemba came to visit us. We were very happy that they brought us a new mattress. The one we’ve been sleeping on for months was horrible and our backs are still recovering from the poorly made mattress. We asked them if they’d like to join us and travel to Zimbabwe to see one of the 7 natural wonders of the world – Victoria Falls. It’s been a dream of mine to go there.
We’re so glad we fulfilled it! Victoria Falls was spectacular. I loved the adventure of driving with friends through Zimbabwe and meeting so many friendly people. The nationals have been through much political turmoil and economic upheaval. If you know any of the history of Robert Mugabe you would understand why. We got to hear fascinating stories of life there.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers and support! Folks like Clemente receiving his gift is what brings joy to our hearts and you play an important role in this happening!!

With love,
Janet and Jeff

Hi Jeff and Janet!

I am so touched and moved as I hear your experiences. At this point I cannot come to the HG school. But perhaps one day, I can come there too and join you in Africa on the journey to trusting the Father in all circumstances. Bless you! Hope to see you in Seattle some time.
Dewi

    Hi Dewi,
It's so great to hear from you and receive your encouraging words! I will miss Dondo...I've grown close to the missionary women here...they've given me a new nickname - "Dondo Diva"...from Pemba Princess to Dondo Diva...I love it!
I hope that some day you will be able to visit Mozambique. You would enjoy
    going to the mission school.
    Much love,
    Janet
